#ISSSTE.- Three patients who benefited from successful transplants are reported to be in good health and recovering satisfactorily: one kidney and two corneas, the result of the last multi-organ donation obtained by the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (Issste) in 2022, on December 23 at the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad «Bicentenario de la Independencia», in Tultitlán, State of Mexico.

Thanks to the generosity and authorization of the donor’s family, skeletal muscle tissue was obtained, with which it will be possible to make prostheses and grafts to provide surgical treatments to 50 beneficiaries in the country affected by the loss of these tissues due to cancer, trauma, chronic diseases and age-related degeneration, said the hospital’s Donation and Transplant Coordinator, Osvaldo Balice Olguín.

In turn, Diego Osvaldo Guzmán Cárdenas, the Central Regional Donation Coordinator of the Issste’s Institutional Transplant Program, informed that with these transplants, the Issste reached 160 in 2022, of which 79 were corneal, 68 kidney, nine liver and four heart transplants.

This year, he said, the goal is to recover and increase these highly specialized procedures, which allow people to be healed and give them new opportunities for a healthy life, in accordance with the instructions of the Director General, Pedro Zenteno Santaella, to recover the Institute’s capacity to make decisions and place the health and integrity of our beneficiaries at the center of all our actions.
